About the Breed

“As a large-sized dog with keen senses, imposing appearance and dignity, and possessed of a self-assured and docile temperament, the Akita has become increasingly popular with fanciers around the world.”

(Japan Kennel Club ‘Akita’ Published 1996)

In Australia, the 2 Akita breeds are not as commonly known as many of the other breeds out there.

Most people who know of the breed, have either met an Akita at a friend’s house, possibly seen one at a dog show or seen the Movie ‘Hatchi’.

If you are lucky enough to have seen an Akita in his home environment you will have seen that this breed is extremely sweet, affectionate and loyal to his owners, however can be quite aloof to strangers.

I Have included some information below to help in your research of the breed
